When people search for a Mediterranean restaurant in Oia, they usually want the same thing — real food, made with real ingredients, in a setting that actually feels like the Greek islands. Not a tourist trap with frozen fish and microwaved moussaka. Not a place that charges for the view and forgets about the plate.
At Oia Gefsis, we’ve been doing this the way it should be done. Our kitchen works with local Santorini produce, seasonal ingredients from across the Greek islands, and recipes that come from a place of genuine tradition. Everything is cooked fresh, served with care, and built around the flavors that have defined Mediterranean cuisine for generations.
We sit inside a 19th-century Cycladic captain’s home in the heart of Oia village — thick stone walls, original architecture, and a rooftop terrace with unblocked views of the Aegean. The building has history. The food does too.
What Mediterranean Cuisine Means at Oia Gefsis
Mediterranean cooking isn’t one thing. It’s a way of eating — seasonal vegetables, olive oil, fresh seafood, grains, legumes, herbs, and local cheeses. At Oia Gefsis, we take that foundation and run it through a Greek lens, using Santorinian ingredients that you won’t find anywhere else.
Our cherry tomatoes grow in volcanic soil and carry a sweetness that’s hard to describe until you taste it. The capers are picked wild from the cliffs. The fava is a Santorini original — yellow split peas, slow-cooked and creamy. And our white eggplant, seedless and rich, only grows here in small quantities.
When you eat at our table, you’re not just eating Mediterranean food. You’re eating the island itself.

Where the Ingredients Come From
Most visitors to Santorini don’t realize how much of what grows here can’t be found anywhere else. The volcanic eruptions that shaped this island over thousands of years left behind a soil unlike any other in Greece — rich in minerals, low in water, and perfect for producing ingredients with concentrated, intense flavor.
That’s why our cherry tomatoes taste sweeter. That’s why the capers have more bite. And that’s why chefs across Greece consider Santorini produce some of the finest in the country.
At Oia Gefsis, we source directly from local Santorini farmers and producers. Our eggs come from Mr. Panagiotis’ farm just outside the village. Our cheeses arrive from small dairies across the Cyclades — Arseniko from Naxos, graviera from Ios, chloro from right here in Santorini. The salami comes from Lefkada. The honey is infused with local sage and citrus.
We don’t import what we can find on the islands. And what we can’t grow here, we bring from trusted producers across mainland Greece — always small-batch, always seasonal.
This isn’t a marketing story. It’s how our kitchen has worked from day one. When the ingredients are this good, the cooking can stay simple.

Why Guests Choose Oia Gefsis
We don’t try to be everything to everyone. We focus on what we know — Mediterranean cooking rooted in Greek island tradition, served in a setting that’s been part of Oia’s story for over a century. Our guests come from all over the world, and many return season after season. The reviews on Google and TripAdvisor reflect that — not because we ask for them, but because people feel something here that’s worth sharing.
We won the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice 2025 for Best Greek Restaurant, and while awards are nice, what matters more is that every guest leaves feeling like they had something genuine.

When to Visit
We’re open daily from 09:00 AM to 10:00 PM — breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For the best experience, we recommend early evening when the light softens over the caldera and the terrace feels most alive. But mornings are equally beautiful if you prefer a quieter start.
Reservations are recommended during summer, especially for sunset hours. Book through our website or call us at +30 2286071526.
